Butte College was among the first community colleges in California to provide a dedicated center for LGBTQ students when it opened the Queer Resource Center in 2018. The center's mission is to provide a safe, inclusive environment and equitable access to help LGBTQ students meet their education goals. Other ways in which Butte College supports the needs and experiences of the LGTBQ community are through student-focused events, the annual Lavender Graduation Celebration, the Chosen Name Project, and access to all-gender restrooms throughout its campus and centers.
"The Butte College Queer Resource Center is excited to share our Campus Pride Index scores with the campus, the community, and prospective students," said the center's coordinator, Sierra Mullett-Kennedy, who oversaw Campus Pride's assessment of the college. "While we celebrate these results, we look forward to improving and strengthening our commitment to a Queer-affirming campus and community."
"I am so proud of the faculty and staff who have worked diligently and caringly toward creating an inclusive, safe environment where our LGBTQ students can learn and thrive," said President Virginia Guleff. "This recognition is a testament to their work."
