Youth Justice Initiative

The Butte College Rising Scholars Youth Justice Initiative is an investment in youth impacted by the juvenile justice system. The project serves youth who are currently detained or attending alternative schools, as well as youth who have been in contact with Juvenile Probation.The goal of the project is to offer these youth an opportunity to create solid pathways to higher education and careers, and thereby reduce recidivism, change students' lives, and strengthen the local community.

Upon enrolling at Butte College, students are supported as they participate in the college orientation process; apply for financial aid; connect with EOPS, TRIO, and DSPS as appropriate; create Education Plans; enroll in classes; and embark on their higher education journey. As part of their transition to college, students will be welcomed into the Rising Scholars student club and will receive all existing wrap-around supports provided by the program.

Youth Justice Initiative students share a dedicated space with the Butte College Rising Scholars program. The Rising Scholars Center includes meeting space, computer stations, access to counselors, and the opportunity to relax and interact with others.
